Editorial Policy: How We Research and Check Our Guides

Submitting a request does not guarantee a loan. Lenders may check your credit. Not available in all states.

Short answer: Every guide on Personal-Loan.com is researched from primary sources, checked figure by figure before it’s published, and reviewed again when rates or laws change. Lenders in our network don’t write, review or approve our guides, and we correct mistakes as soon as we find them.

Who writes Personal-Loan.com’s guides?

Our guides are written and published by the Personal-Loan.com team, so they appear under the site’s name rather than a personal byline. We use software tools, including AI writing assistants, to help with research and drafting. Nothing is published until every figure, date and rule on the page has been checked against its original source.

Which sources do we use?

We rely on primary sources wherever one exists:

Each claim names its source in the same sentence, along with the date of the data, so you can see where a number comes from.

How do we check the numbers?

We recompute every worked example, monthly payment, total interest and APR before a page goes live. Example figures are always labeled “example only”. They show how a loan works and are never an offer or a quote. Your real rate, fees and terms come from the lender.

How often are pages updated?

Pages that show rates or lender terms are reviewed at least every quarter. Pages about state law are reviewed at least once a year, and sooner when a law changes. The “Updated” date at the bottom of a page changes only when its content actually changes.

Do lenders influence what we write?

No. Lenders in our network may pay us when you submit a loan request, which is how the site is funded, but they don’t write, review or approve our guides. Our guides also point to options that may cost less than a personal loan, such as credit union loans, payment plans and nonprofit credit counseling.

How do we handle mistakes?

If you find an error, tell us through our contact page. We check the claim against its source, fix the page if it’s wrong and update its date. To learn more about who we are and how the service works, read about Personal-Loan.com.
